Healthy Start
MCHC's Healthy Start Program is part of a national effort in 100 communities to improve the health and well-being of women, infants, and children. Infant mortality and low birthweight remain major public health issues in the U.S. and Chester County, particularly among women of color.
Bilingual, bicultural Family Health Advocates in Coatesville, Kennett Square, Phoenixville, Oxford and West Chester provide prenatal and postpartum home visiting, health insurance enrollment, health education, and connections to community resources to increase self-sufficiency.
Healthy Start provides individual and group Prenatal and Parent Education in both English and Spanish on pregnancy, prenatal care, labor and delivery, and infant safety and development.
For more detailed information about the results of our program please look at our 10-Year Report "Healthy Start: Closing the Gap ... Improving the Health of Mothers and Children in Chester County"

Family Benefits Program
MCHC expanded our countywide health insurance enrollment initiative to include enrollment assistance into SNAP (food stamps), an important source of healthy foods for low-income families. Now, MCHC’s Family Benefits Program connects Chester County families with Medical Assistance, CHIP, and SNAP—helping them gaining access to all the resources they need to ensure a healthy family. With a growing number of Chester County residents struggling in this economy, the number of families that seek our help has steadily increased.
We are in partnership with several community-based organizations in order to provide assistance in both English and Spanish at 12 locations throughout Chester County. For more information about this program and public benefits, please see our brochure.
